On Thursday, December 1st the West Covina High School Cross Country team along with their parents and supporters met in the Bulldog Cafe for their Awards Night. The evening was catered by Taquisa and the event was hosted by Head Coach, Frank Gonzales. Coach Gonzales recognized the Cross Team for their continued hard work, perseverance, and dedication this season – – continuing the legacy of the XC work ethic set by their predecessors.
This season, all boys’ teams finished as undefeated league champions, with a combined record of 60 wins and 0 losses. The Frosh-Soph team was lead by sophomore, Christian Saldana, who claimed his first individual league championship. This was continued with the JV Boys, which was lead by senior, Robert Valenzuela, who also claimed his first individual league championship. Finally, following in the same fashion was Varsity Boys, lead by senior Oscar Chavez. He earned the MVP award for the Hacienda League for his strong finish as league champion. The girls’ teams were lead by senior, Jasmine Estrada, who consistently finished first for the West Covina team. Varsity Girls finished their season in fourth place. Meanwhile, the JV Girls finished their season in second place – only conceding to Walnut High School.
