Bulldogs News · Hacienda League Finals

Congratulations to the West Covina High School Cross Country Team that finished their amazing season on Tuesday, October 30th at Bonelli Park.

The Frosh Soph Boys finished 2nd at League Finals and 2nd overall with a record of 16-4. They were lead by sophomore, Lino Castro, who finished 4th overall with a time of 18:55. He was supported by teammates Demario Pulgar (8th), Josh Ramirez (9th), Chris Limas (11th), and Alejandro Murillo (21st). They rounded out the top 5 scorers for the Frosh Soph Boys.

Elizabeth Ramirez stepped up to lead the JV Girls after Queen Christine Juarez was pulled up to run varsity. Our JV Girls demonstrated some impressive pack running finishing in 10th – 14th places for the top 5. Ramirez finished with a time of 26:17 for the 3-mile course. She was followed by: Emily Ulloa, Rebecca Araya, Adrianna Alcantar, and Roxanna Morena. Despite their combined efforts they finished second in league to Walnut with an overall record of 15-5.

The JV Boys pulled off an exciting first place finish at League Finals – edging out Walnut. After taking 2nd in the first two league meets the JV Boys needed to win at League Finals to be co-champions – and they did as they beat 2nd place by 15 points. Because of their efforts, they were able to co-claim the League Championship title with an overall record of 18-2. Giovaughn De La Cruz captured the JV League Championship, finishing with a time of 18:39. He was supported by Francisco Gonzalez (2nd), William Tong (4th), Gerry Anguiano (6th), and Geovanni Navarro (8th).

The Varsity Boys were lead by junior Francisco Murillo, who finished 11th overall with a time of 17:41. He was followed by Joseph Vallejo. Both runners finished with 2nd Team League Honors. The remainder of the top 5 finishers finished in 17th, 21st, and 25th place – they were Max Loera, Kyle Potts, and Derek Daproza. Unfortunately the boys’ 4th place finish was not enough to earn then a spot at CIF.

Finally… the Varsity Girls. The Varsity Girls were lead by senior and captain Alyssa Ruiz. She finished 8th overall (her best finish of the season) with a time of 21:07. Her 8th place finish also earned her 1st Team honors. Claudia Vera (10th), Emily Montano (14th), and Yadira (15th) finished in the following three spots for our team, and earning them 2nd Team honors. The fifth scorer for the varsity team was Queen Christine Juarez who finished in 19th place.  The Varsity Girls finished 2nd at League Finals and 2nd overall with a record of 16-4 (losing only to Walnut). Alyssa, Claudia, Emily, Yadria, Christine, and Carol will be representing West Covina at the CIF Division 2 Prelims held on Friday, November 9th in Riverside. I would say come out and support, but it’s a school day… so maybe just tell them good luck!
