Meet Recap

The West Covina Cross Country Teams competed at the Bell Gardens Invite on Saturday, October 15th at Cerritos Regional Park. Races began at 8:00am, ran every 30 minutes, and concluded at noon. There were more than 900 boys competing on Saturday that comprised over 45 teams. The harriers of West Covina finished 6th, with the team being led by Senior Evan Potts. He finished the 3-mile course in 15 minutes and 29 seconds and was 12th overall. The remaining scorers included seniors Oscar Chavez (15:49) who finished 30th, John McGrath who finished 48th overall with a time of 16:03, and Josh Ramos (16:10) and finished 56th. The fifth and final scorer was junior Issac Granados who finished 70th and completed the course in 16 minutes and 21 seconds. The top-five varsity boys spread was only 52 seconds (from the first to fifth finisher). The girls had a great showing – even after sitting out sophomores Emily Montano and Marilyn Calleros. There were more than 600 girls that competed on Saturday and over 40 schools represented. The girl’s team finished 24th and was led by senior Jasmine Estrada who finished 53rd with a time of 19:49. She was followed by sophomores Alyssa Ruiz (21:36) and Carolina Ramirez (21:37). Finishing with the fourth and fifth fastest times for the West Covina team were freshmen Miranda Gallegos (21:59) and Blanca Ramirez (22:07). Our next invitational is the Mt. SAC Invite on Saturday, October 22nd in the city of Walnut! Come out and support your Bulldogs!

Meet Recap

The WCHS girls tennis team toughed out a challenging match against top-ranked Walnut, winning four sets. Taylor Valenzuela won her first two sets 6-1 and 6-0 before taking her final set against Walnut’s best singles player, putting her away 6-3. Nicole Villa had the set of the day, however, after being down 5-1 storming back to win 7-5.

The Bulldogs came together as a team for a huge collective victory in a hard fought, back-and-forth battle. 4th quarter fumble return for a touchdown started the scoring, and the victory was sealed a last minute touchdown drive by the offense.

Meet Recap

The Frosh-Soph Boys finished in first place with a score of 25 points. Sophomore Christian Frank Saldana won the Frosh-Soph Boys race with a time of 18:47; he improved his time by 41 seconds. Fellow sophomores Derek Daproza (19:40) and Brian “Booger” Bulgarelli (19:49) finished in 3rd and 4th place respectively. William “Chilly Willy” Tong was the fastest freshman and finished in 5th place with a time of 19:50. The final scoring position was claimed by sophomore Kyle Potts, little brother of varsity runner Evan Potts, and he finished the 3-mile course with a time of 20 minutes and 39 seconds. Taking the final two Frosh-Soph spots were sophomores Mathew Cota (21:24) and Javier Medina (21:49). Also, supporting the frosh was Alex Oei finishing with a time of 22:37. The boys of West Covina continue to remain undefeated and are working hard to claim three league championships. Hacienda League Finals are Tuesday, November 1st at 2:00pm at Bonelli Park in San Dimas. Come out and show your support!

Meet Recap

The JV Girls finished in 2nd place with 55 points behind Walnut High School. Senior Colette Andrews (24:07) had an amazing race improving her personal record by 88 seconds and finished first for the Bulldogs. Finishing in 8th and 9th places were sophomores Jessica Arriaga (24:50) and Christine Juarez (24:55). Marilyn Calleros finished 4th for the Bulldogs with a time of 25:24. Wrapping up the JV team was sophomore Crystal Marquez (26:23). Come out and support the JV Girls on Tuesday, November 1st at Bonelli Park.
