Orozco’s Walkoff Gives West Covina Victory Over Chino
A walk-off home run propelled West Covina to a decisive, dramatic victory over Chino, 6-5.
The game was tied at five with West Covina batting in the bottom of the seventh when Nadya Orozco hit a solo homer.
Chino scored three runs in the second inning, but West Covina still managed to pull out the victory. Chino big bats were led by Kayli Millsap and Karagan Varela, all driving in runs in the inning.
Chino opened up an early lead in the second inning when a sacrifice bunt by Millsap scored one run for Chino.
West Covina evened things up at five in the bottom of the fifth inning. West Covina scored one run when Trinity Garcia doubled.
West Covina scored three runs in the fifth inning. West Covina offense in the inning was led by Aysha Ramirez, Clarissa Cruz, and Trinity Garcia, all driving in runs in the frame.
Nadya Orozco was the winning pitcher for West Covina. She lasted seven innings, allowing nine hits and five runs while striking out eight.
Emily Leavitt took the loss for Chino. She lasted six and a third innings, allowing six hits and six runs while striking out 12.
Orozco went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead West Covina in hits.
Chino tallied nine hits. Varela and Brianna Juarez each collected multiple hits for Chino. Varela led Chino with three hits in four at bats.
