Two West Covina Pitchers Combine To Shutout Clovis
West Covina defeated Clovis 6-0 on Friday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Nadya Orozco got Makenna Haubelt to hit into a fielder’s choice to finish off the game.
West Covina notched three runs in the fifth inning. The offensive onslaught came from a fielder’s choice by Taylor Graciano and a double by Trinity Garcia.
One bright spot for Clovis was a single by Tori Mueller in the first inning.
Garcia was the winning pitcher for West Covina. She lasted three and a third innings, allowing six hits and zero runs while striking out two. Orozco threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Orozco recorded the last five outs to earn the save for West Covina.
Allie Puente took the loss for Clovis. She allowed eight hits and six runs over five innings, striking out two.
Clarissa Cruz led West Covina with two hits in three at bats.
Clovis totaled six hits in the game. Maddy Arnold and Jordyn Martinez each had multiple hits for Clovis. Clovis was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Emily Puente made the most plays with five.
