Early Lead For Etiwanda Seals Fate For West Covina
West Covina fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 8-1 loss to Etiwanda on Monday. Etiwanda scored on a walk by Alyssa Beck and a double by Julia Jimenez in the second inning.
The West Covina struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Etiwanda, giving up eight runs.
Etiwanda got on the board in the second inning when Beck drew a walk, scoring one run.
Etiwanda scored four runs in the fifth inning. Etiwanda offense in the inning was led by Jimenez, Jada Cruz, Annalisa Panuco, and Brisa Neal, all knocking in runs in the inning.
Meeko Harrison earned the win for Etiwanda. She surrendered zero runs on three hits over three innings, striking out one and walking one. Panuco and Rochelle Nuqui entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Panuco recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for Etiwanda.
Nadya Orozco took the loss for West Covina. She went five innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out one.
Orozco went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead West Covina in hits.
Jimenez led Etiwanda with three hits in four at bats.
